“An Introduction to Earth Observation Techniques: Applications to the Land and Atmosphere"

(Monday 26th March – Wednesday 28th March 2018)

This training workshop provided students with an overview in Earth Observation applications that help to gain a better understanding of natural and anthropogenic processes impacting the Earth’s climate.

The workshop comprised of a combination of lectures, practical exercise, seminars and covered the following topics:

  • Remote Sensing of Greenhouse Gases
  • Monitoring Fires from Space
  • Measuring and validating Land Surface Temperature
  • Use of models together with EO data
  • Sensing aerosols and pollutants from the Ground
  • Practical training in the use of climate data record and visualisation tools

Participants learnt about current remote sensing capabilities and methods in lectures and seminars, they participated in field experiments, carried out group exercises in data visualisation and analysis and presented their own research in a poster presentation.

The training course was delivered by UK and Indian experts including Professor Hartmut Boesch, Dr Harjinder Sembhi and Dr Darren Ghent (University of Leicester), Professor Sachichida Tripathi (IIT Kanpur), Dr Sumit Sharma (TERI Delhi), Professor Martin Wooster (Kings College London), (CLCR).
